The Purple Cow
Ben Coppin was commissioned by Lyle & Scott to create two digital paintings to be openly displayed inside of their brand new state of the art office refurb. The paintings were designed to coincide with the brands ethos of being a ‘Purple Cow’ Which describes something phenomenal, something counterintuitive and exciting and flat-out unbelievable, separating those from the rest.

Alongside Lyle & Scott’s already existing values of embodying the ‘Purple Cow’ attitude, this was later adapted to also include a ‘Purple Rhino – A rhino is often considered to be a good omen and a sign of strength, allowing those to get through anything that may come your way.
This ethos was unique to their brand and aligned perfectly with their business/working style – A company inspired by being different, being great and being the best!
The digital paintings were designed and illustrated digitally using Photoshop and an array of different brush styles and textures. The colour palette was aimed to capture the essence of the ‘Purple Cow’ however the white, black, navy, grey and bright gold were included to pay homage to the brands already existing identity.
The digital paintings were printed on A3 canvases and were hung and displayed across multiple rooms of the office space.
